It’s so many things, so many genres meeting that I can’t unravel it all in text. One thing I can determine with great accuracy is that it’s clearly not bad, but everything else imaginable: Yes, quite so!

Anonymous UK producer Lying Cat draws influence from glitch, ambient, jazz and experimental electronica. ‘With Occult Static’ was developed through a delicate system of improvised interplay between piano, guitar, drums and max/msp. The sonic experiments dictated the direction of each track and the results were moulded into their finished forms. The spirit of chance, serendipity and improvisation were kept central at all times while developing the album.

The release, steeped with challenges, covers new ground for the producer, focusing on jazz orientated guitar and piano parts, blending organic and electronic drums and blurring the lines between instruments and manipulation. ‘With Occult Static’ bursts with experimental joy at every unexpected turn.
