about

The Eyes and the Mistoids (aka Stuart Smythe) returns with a new EP; Sheer Carnage – a collection of improvised jazz pieces expertly intertwined with the wonky bleeps, electronic grooves, and sensual robot stirrings of a janky modular system. Continuing where the previous album Oobleck left off, Sheer Carnage leans into the chaos, utilising random pattern generators, drum samples and glitchy granular sampling at its core, overlaid with piano noodling, off-the-cuff solos, and maybe a couple of other little surprises along the way…

Sheer Carnage

leads on leads on leads
a junk box of hard noises
the frame sways like a drunken horse
keys rattle under broken thumbnails
yet it all falls together; a pendulum wave on a hymnal ninth
and how do you like them existential crises?
a boy howls for help; that’ll keep the wolves at bay
turning their saw teeth over in a sequential mating call
a red cloud aesthetic reflected in the mirror-moon disco ball
you’re the message and I’m the machine.
I can sense the anthracite deposits
I can see the spectral faces in the walls
I can feel my brain shrinking
but it all gets channelled through the low-pass and wakey-wakey
the head crevice opens
–when God handed out the brains you bent over!–
a good problem, yes, but still a problem
and what can you say that hasn’t been said ten times before
only with better diction and ideal occlusions
(this when orthographic satiation starts to lose all meaning)?
feet trapped under a bad-tempered clavier
tongue a silent cranium whale
buckle up, the great desideratum is for a cornucopia of smorgasbords
and though I can tell you're impatient for an éclaircissement, rest assured
the poor distracted folk of Bedlam waited till they entered their skeleton years.
only one man knows the path to eternal happiness and he scored it in an unfinished fugue:
he was found with a note
in a language no-one spoke
on a pristine beach in a place called Greece
with an erotic lampshade on his head and a t-shirt that read;
‘the smellier the sommelier, the brinier the wine.’
well, I’ve had my fill of sleep paralysis now
so it’s back to the razzamatazz...
